Writing requires the baring of the guts.
We are required to trust that our words can and will be communicated effectively. Yet we recognize the fact that conflicting opinions might arise, challenging our thoughts and points of view. Writing requires that our voices speak through the lines, punctuating each sentence with varying tones and emphasis.
Writing requires courage.
Sometimes we do not want to write things which might shed a different light upon ourselves. We would rather stick to the tried and true instead of listening to our instincts because we think that following the hard and fast rules will help us more than harm us. But sometimes we acknowledge the nagging voices at the back of our minds and we act on them. And then we accept the consequences as they come.
Writing requires raw honesty.
Despite the judgements that we know people will make as they read what we have penned, we will still do it – for our peace of mind and for theirs. We must get that whole world inside our heads to tumble out and fill up the pages before us because honesty is what paints the best pictures.
Today may be a good day – a day when everything seems to go our way. It may be an awful day – a day when all we feel like doing is break down and give up. But when that world calls out to us, willing us to release it from the confines of our beings, we respond.
Come what may, we write.
