Quirks

There are many ways in which I am sloppy (you'd know if you've seen my desk before... heh), much as I hate to admit it. But these are two of the things that I hate to be shoddy: assignments or projects, and my bed. I absolutely dread editing sometimes, but deep down, there is a part of me that itches like crazy to proofread and edit my written assignments. Many a times, I've been tempted to hand in my assignments without more than just a glance through the finished product, but I've always ended up staying up late at night, vowing to catch every single error that I can. Sometimes it makes me feel obssessive, almost.

The thing about my bed is that I have a self-imposed rule of making my bed right after waking up. I can be bumbling around while going to shower, but there is no way that I am leaving my bed unmade and extremely rumpled. I don't quite bother about tucking in the sheets and smoothing out the wrinkles, but I absolutely must fold up my blankets and position my pillows properly. If I don't, the mess will just keep on catching my eye to the point where it annoys me.

So, the last few days have been a bit crazy, with the amount of typing and editing that I've done. The assignment has finally been handed in, so I can finally stop obssessing over the spacing, font type, alignment, and especially the sentence structures. Argh. Do we all suffer from a bit of OCD? And today was one of the very few days during which I left the room with my bed unmade. I woke up to a very bright room and my roommate's voice, 4 minutes before my class started. I felt like such a champion. I literally leapt off the bed and rushed to the bathroom. And yeah, I left my bed with a tangle of blankets on it and my pillows thrown haphazardly into a pile near the head of the bed. I felt like such a slob. :(

I know, all this coming from the girl whose Calculus notes (bound with a comb bind) has almost shredded in the front and back and whose pencil case is always stuffed with junk (but may I proudly proclaim that it has changed since I got myself a small pencil case that can't fit anything but the necessities) is kind of weird. But I'm just like that. I'm a bit dumbfounded as well.

On an unrelated note, I plugged in my (almost about to die on me) earphones to listen to some music while studying in the library just now (yeah, because I'm just geeky like that). I got so bored with my playlist that I ended up going from song to song for at least 2 minutes. Recently, I got Love Hurts in my playlist and I have to say, I didn't listen to it quite well before this. The song has really grown on me, despite its somewhat painful lyrics.

Love hurts,
But sometimes it's a good hurt,
And it feels like I'm alive...

How it is a good hurt, I still cannot comprehend. But then again, I've never been in love.

Listen to this

I love this song! :)

ARHHHH. I experienced a passing moment of panic while I was chatting. I need to get started on university applications - AGAIN. I can't just update my Michigan application because it's over 3 terms. *hitwall* Here we go again... Brace yourselves, applicants and readers alike, for there may be rants ahead. :P

Surrender

Hold up
Hold on
Don't be scared,
You'll never change what's been and gone
May your smile, (may your smile)
Shine on, (shine on)
Don't be scared, (don't be scared)
Your destiny may keep you warm,

'Cause all of the stars,
Have faded away
Just try not to worry,
You'll see them someday,
Take what you need,
And be on your way and
Stop crying your heart out

Get up, (get up)
Come on, (come on)
Why you scared? (I'm not scared)
You'll never change what's been and gone

I have this song playing on a loop on my laptop. A while ago, I wondered what it means... but you know what? Maybe I don't wanna think so much tonight.

I want a resolution. God, please show me the way.

Selamat Hari Gawai to everyone who is celebrating! :)

Song for the Unloved

Hey..
This one is for the mothers…
Who've lost a child
This one is for the gypsies
Who left their hearts behind
This is for the strangers
Sleeping in my heart
Take what they want
And leave while it's still dark

[Bridge]
No one is glamourously
Lonely, all by themselves

[Chorus]
This is a song for the unloved
This is a music for one last cry
This is a prayer that tomorrow will help me leave the past behind
It's a song for the unloved (the unloved)

This one's for the bridesmaid
Never the bride
This one's for the dreamers
Who locked their faith inside
This is for the widows
Who think there's only one
The dying fathers that never told their sons

No one is glamourously, lonely
Follow your heart…

[Chorus repeat]

Ohh
Tomorrow the sun will shine
And dry the tears in your eyes
Suddenly love comes alive…

For one last cry
Just one last cry…

[Chorus repeat x2]

Song for the Unloved (Backstreet Boys)

In case you're feeling a little unloved, I LOVE YOU! :)

I <3 BSB

I won't tell nobody
I'll just scream it in my mind
Nothing good in life is scripted
It's not like we predicted
That the one you want
Is gonna be the one you thought

I won't tell nobody
But I won't live like a prisoner
Nothing has to be so perfect
Can you tell me was it worth it
Because her heart can't lie
And even though her face may try
Love can keep you up all night

Chorus:
Cause love will keep you up all night
It's not something you can decide
One day you're all alone
The next you're crying on the phone
Love will keep you up all night
You got a taste of sweet divine
It took you to the other side
Love will keep you up all night

If I don't tell a living soul
Still everyone would know
Yes they would
It's always three am somewhere
You know it when you get there

Some people try to cover it up
Some people think it's never enough (never enough)

Chorus:
Cause love will keep you up all night
It's not something you can decide
One day you're all alone
The next you're crying on the phone
Love will keep you up all night
You got a taste of sweet divine
It took you to the other side
Love will keep you up all night

I don't mean to scare you
But everybody has a first time
One day when you're old and gray
Don't look back and never say
You should have tried
Stayed up all night

Love will keep you up all night
It's not something you can decide

One day you're all alone
The next you're crying on the phone

Love will keep you up all night
You got a taste of sweet divine
It took you to the other side
To the other side
Love will keep you up all night
It's not something you can decide
One day you're all alone
The next you're cryin', you're cryin'
Love will keep you up all night
You got a taste of sweet divine
It took you to the other side
Love will keep you up all
will keep you up all night

Love will keep you up all night

Love Will Keep You Up All Night (Backstreet Boys)

I love this song. And I love BSB lah, in case you don't know. :P

Echo in the night

I was putting away my toiletries when I noticed a white moth fluttering near my bags. It fluttered around in what seemed like a slight frenzy. I suddenly recalled reading somewhere that a white butterfly is the sign that you'll meet someone whom you have not seen in a long while. I wonder if that applies to a white moth too, because I really do want to meet some people I haven't met for a long time.

*

Song of the day:

Echo, echo...
We come, we go-woah
No I don't want to be just another
Echo, echo...

Everywhere I go
There's something I really need
Everyone I know
Is someone I want to be
Even though
I don't really know me

I better pick it up
Before I let it slip away
I better stick it out
Before I take another day
Hand to mouth
And every single word I say fades out

Echo, echo...
We come, we go-woah
No I don't want to be just another
Echo, echo...

Can I open up your eyes?
Only when the clouds break?
Can I feel alive?
Even though the world shakes
Every night,
You're my quiet satellite

Can I hold you close?
Until we're out of focus
And everything I know
I don't even notice
When it all falls through
I'm here and I hear you

Echo, echo...
We come, we go-woah
No I don't want to be just another
Echo, echo...

Do you hear me?
Do you hear me?
Cause I need to, just to reach you
Can you hear me?
Come in clearly
Am I hollow?
Just an echo

Echo, echo...
We come, we go-woah
No I don't want to be just another
Echo, echo...

Echo, echo...
We come, we go-woah
No I don't want to be just another
Echo, echo...

A Love Song

Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
Want to vanish inside your kiss
Everyday I love you more and more
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sings
Telling me to give you everything
Seasons may change winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you

And there's no mountain too high no river too wide
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather and stars may collide
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day
Oh come what may, come what may
I will love you

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place...

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day.

Playlist on rewind

Here is a part of a looooooooong list of songs that I like (on varying levels, in no particular order) because they remind me of something or someone in the past or present.

Dare You to Move (Switchfoot)

This is my ultimate favourite song because it's so inspirational. I listen to it for motivation whenever I'm down or frustrated. For the most part, I like it because it brings back good memories.

Kiss Kiss (Chris Brown)

I uploaded this song into my phone right after I got it because I was so into it at that time. Ji Ding and I used to sit together in the excursion bus and share my earphones to listen to this song during those trips on the MOE Scholars' Orientation. Ah, good times. =)

Low (Flo Rida ft T-Pain)

This is Room 103's soundtrack! It all started when Shing Yee asked me why they rapped about birds and feathers in the song. I laughed so much it hurt. Took me a while to recover and explain to her that the song has got nothing to do with birds and feathers! "She hit the bird!"

Stolen (Dashboard Confessional)

This song isn't my cup of tea but it's memorable because Calvin used to sing this every Physics lesson in the lab beside me. When you've got someone repeating a song almost every day, it's only natural that it sticks in your head, so..

I Want It That Way (Backstreet Boys)

There's a long story behind why this song is memorable to me. Connie and I sang it before one of our exam papers back in Form 2, I think. It stuck since then and became a tradition for us to sing it while we did last-minute mugging for a paper. Haha!

Home (Westlife)

I think the title says it all for this song. We used to listen to this whenever we felt homesick. My advice is to NOT listen to this song when you're feeling homesick because if anything, it INTENSIFIES your homesickness to the extent that you feel like.. like.. crying. ='(

Apologize (OneRepublic)

I'm not too crazy about this song but Ruth had it on replay when I was in the toilet, bathroom, studying, reading, eating.. So, lekat lah.

Leaving On A Jet Plane (Chantel)

Ish.. I kinda dislike this song now because it reminds me of the transition that I'm going through. But actually, I normally love this song because it's very touching. Emomomooooo.

Don't Wanna Miss A Thing (Aerosmith)

Because I used to belt this out with Chia Hsin back in those days and it brings back memories in McNair.

Don't Want You Back (Eamon)

So angry. But nice!

These Walls (Teddy Geiger)

Now this song brings back wonderful memories of our first orientation, LOST, in SA. This was our theme song. Back then, I didn't fancy this song too much but it grew on me and I ended up loving it after the orientation. (By the way, I LOVE ACHOMAWIIIII!)

Beautiful Girl (Sean Kingston)

Because that's how we identified Kingston, instead of sticking the label of "white like ang mo boy" on him. And the tune just sticks in your head after a while, spinning around on replay.

Give Me Novacaine (Green Day)

This song reminds me so much of debate last year because that was when Elstan introduced the song to me. I've been hooked since.

Qi Li Xiang (Jay Chou)

(Okay, get that shellshocked look off your face. I do listen to Chinese songs too!) This song brings back bittersweet memories in secondary school. I had it set as my ringtone for two whole years, I think.

Queen of My Heart (Westlife)

(What's with these Q songs..) Fateen and I used to be crazy over this song. I miss hogging the phone talking to her! =(

Spanish Eyes (Backstreet Boys)

This song reminds me of my sister. I'm so jealous that she got to watch BSB live in concert while I was stuck in McNair Lodge, bouncing around the room in delight. I had to be content with listening to them from another continent. *sigh*

Goodbye My Lover (James Blunt)

My James Blunt obsession started when Chia Hsin got his CD. And the boys sang this by the pool as part of their farewell performance! Awww..

Scars (Papa Roach)

I heard this song on the radio every day when I had to go to the hospital for a whole month after my appendectomy. The song just seemed very fitting at the time even though there were days when I was annoyed that they just HAD to play the song when my wound hurt so much. =p

Blurry (Puddle of Mudd)

I was nuts over this song in Primary 6!

Falling Slowly (Glen Hansard & Marketa Iglova)

I fell in love with this song when it was performed during the Guitar Concert not too long ago. =)

These songs are just part of the many, many wonderful songs which mean so much to me. They may bring back good memories, sad memories. Listing them ALL down would take forever. But it's amazing how just one song can evoke so much inside us, isn't it?

In Christ Alone

If you are struggling in any way, this is for you. If you are grieving, for the loss of someone dear, something precious, tangible or not, this is for you. If you are lost, regardless if you know the reason or not, this is for you. Hold on to your faith and the storm will settle with your belief.

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost it's grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Brought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
'Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

Take a few minutes to listen to this song and read the lyrics. It is worth the time.

It is in trying times that we seek great comfort in knowing that someone is always there for us no matter what. And it is in trying times that we search deep and see something we have failed to see before. Maybe it is just another lesson to be learnt.

Tadaaaaaaaaa!

FINALLY! The hostel's wireless connection is back up again! And I can get a stable connection from my desk in the room! *cue harp music*

Woke up later than planned this morning - 6.30 am. Freaked out, climbed down the bunk steps in a rush (I can do it with my eyes closed already! Lol), grabbed my stuff and zoomed into the bathroom. After that I made a dash to the canteen to pack 2 pieces of bread with kaya spread for breakfast, jammed them into a Ziploc bag, dumped my stuff into my bag, rushed to the lobby and decided that I hate my alarm clock. It dies every night! I think the battery socket is loose. Lucky for us a cab came by only a minute after we stepped out of the gates. The ride to NTU was cold. Very cold.

The test was.. funny. I don't know what to make out of it, really. But I still want to be able to convert my NRP to an H3 subject. That'd be great. I have to submit my project proposal by 30 May. My professor's giving me till 20 May to come up with my draft which I need to send to him for checking. Which means that I have 10 days to brainstorm and come up with something to do with solar energy. *BUT I NEVER DID A TECHNICAL REPORT!!* Okay, okay, that was just my nerves screaming. I shall persevere.

The lectures were sleep-inducing. Couple them with my lack of sleep, it's lethal. I felt like a zombie while I was dozing off. I had my chin cupped in my hand, my eyes staring right ahead at the screen, only to find myself drifting off to Lalaland more than a gazillion times. *sigh* I think I've been killing a lot of brain cells lately by pulling extremely late nights. But Term 2 is nuts. I can't finish my work and revise if I don't pull late nights. But I shall press on. 2 more weeks and we will come to the end of Term 2. Can you believe it, I've already spent a total of 18 weeks in JC?! Wow. Time really flies.

Stayed back for debate meeting yesterday, which lasted till 7 pm. And then went off to the Cultural Centre (sounds so cool, right? Actually it's our school's biggest hall la.. haha.. bet you thought it's some performance hall outside) for the guitar concert. Devoured the hot dog Kingston got me before the concert began. (I know I ate extremely fast la.. But can you tahan if your last bite was at 12 pm?! Okay, maybe you can. But I cannot!) The slow pieces were good albeit a little lullaby-ish (or maybe that was just because of my pounding headache). Tom played throughout the concert, so pro la! =) The concert ended on a high note with the rock band's rendition of Play That Funky Music and some other song whose title I don't know lol (yes, I do realise how lame that sounds..). Part of me wished that they had played La Camisa Negra because I loved it when the IMH band performed it last year. =D

View of our CC from the seats on the upper deck

Seeing as how I'm actually in the mood to blog today, here are some pictures that I've just uploaded from my phone. I've had most of them for ages. Just didn't upload them because the connection was down.

I love that glove! =p

Photobucket
Eh eh.. don't take my picture la, darling..

By the way, all the pictures above were taken in the Chemistry lab where we worked on our biodiesel project for the SYSF, which, unfortunately, our team did not get selected to enter into the finals. But it was a great learning experience for me even if it did involve a lot of frustration and obstacles. It made me fear the lab less (yeah, I know, who is afraid of the lab?!) and especially helped me to get used to the apparatus to ready myself for SPA (Science Practical Assessment for those who are not familiar with the acronyms here). Plus, it was great working with Mr Yeo and Mr Ong because they are such a funny pair. =p They made us laugh so much that we didn't look like we were actually doing work in the lab.. heh..

Next.. STEAMBOAT! (I can hear my stomach grumbling now.. skipped lunch.. sabar, perutku..)

Cuz we all just wanna be BIG ROCKSTARS!

I'm through with standing in line
To clubs we'll never get in
It's like the bottom of the ninth
And I'm never gonna win
This life hasn't turned out
Quite the way I want it to be

(Tell me what you want)
I want a brand new house
On an episode of Cribs
And a bathroom I can play baseball in
And a king size tub big enough
For ten plus me

(So what you need?)
I'll need a credit card that's got no limit
And a big black jet with a bedroom in it
Gonna join the mile high club
At thirty-seven thousand feet
(Been there, done that)
I want a new tour bus full of old guitars
My own star on Hollywood Boulevard
Somewhere between Cher and James Dean is fine for me

(So how you gonna do it?)
I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
I'd even cut my hair and change my name

[Chorus:]'Cause we all just wanna be big rockstars
And live in hilltop houses driving fifteen cars
The girls come asy and the drugs come cheap
We'll all stay skinny 'cause we just won't eat
And we'll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good gold digger's
Gonna wind up there
Every Playboy bunny
With her bleach blond hair

Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar

I wanna be great like Elvis without the tassels
Hire eight body guards that love to beat up assholes
Sign a couple autographs
So I can eat my meals for free
(I'll have the quesadilla, on the house)
I'm gonna dress my ass
With the latest fashion
Get a front door key to the Playboy mansion
Gonna date a centerfold that loves to
Blow my money for me

(So how you gonna do it?)
I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
I'd even cut my hair and change my name

[Chorus]

And we'll hide out in the private rooms
With the latest dictionary and today's who's who
They'll get you anything with that evil smile
Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar
I'm gonna sing those songs
That offend the censors
Gonna pop my pills from a pez dispenser
I'll get washed-up singers writing all my songs
Lip sync em every night so I don't get 'em wrong

[Chorus]

And we'll hide out in the private rooms
With the latest dictionary and today's who's who
They'll get you anything with that evil smile
Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar
Hey hey I wanna be a rockstar

Rockstar - Nickelback

I know this song isn't brand new anymore but I couldn't resist putting it up in my sidebar. =p So blame me for loving this site. It's got a really fun video clip to go with it too. They've got normal everyday people like you and me singing along in there because, hey, we all just wanna be BIG ROCKSTARS! There are cameo appearances too, from Gene Simmons to Paul Sr from the OCC (one of my all-time favourite shows).

Gotta love Nickelback.

PS: Enrique's Somebody's Me has been released as a single. Which is awesome because I looooove that song so much I listen to it every morning since I got the CD! Yes, I am hooked onto mushy songs too.
